Rob Martinez

Rob “Batman” Martinez is a veteran who served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army and National Guard from the mid-1990s until 2000. After his service, Rob was drawn to the American Legion to reconnect with people who understood the camaraderie, values, and shared experiences that come with military service.

That sense of brotherhood eventually led him to American Legion Riders Post 259. Rob quickly became involved in the organization, first serving as Sergeant at Arms and later as Director of the Riders. He has continued to take on leadership roles over the years, including Assistant Director of the American Legion Riders Post 259. His service reaches past the Riders as well: Rob is Third Vice Commander of American Legion Post 259 and sits on the board of the Oneonta Vets Club.

Whether he is helping with an event, lending a hand to a fellow veteran, or out riding his 2017 Can-Am Spyder F3-S Daytona, affectionately named “Diana,” Rob is known for his loyalty, straightforward personality, and willingness to step up when someone needs help.

For Rob, the Riders are about much more than motorcycles. They are about supporting veterans, their families, and the community while building friendships with people who genuinely look out for one another. He describes the group as a gathering of like-minded people who have each other’s backs. If someone needs help, he knows the Riders will do what they can to be there.

“I missed hanging out with like-minded people,” Rob says of what originally drew him to the Legion. Today, one of the things that matters most to him is making sure fellow veterans know they have people around them they can count on.

Rob also brings a wide range of practical skills to the group. A jack-of-all-trades and master handyman, he works in everything from carpentry to welding and is usually willing to put those skills to use wherever they are needed.

As of 2026, his passion for motorcycles spans more than 30 years. He started out riding a Ninja before moving on to cruisers and Yamahas, eventually finding his way to “Diana,” his Can-Am Spyder F3-S Daytona. When he is not riding or working, Rob enjoys cooking, target shooting, and superhero movies, which seems especially fitting for someone everyone knows as “Batman.”

For anyone considering joining the Riders, Rob’s message is simple: if you are looking for genuine friendships, an opportunity to support good causes, and a group of people who enjoy riding while giving back, there is a place for you at Post 259.
