David Buck
Second Vice Commander, American Legion Post 259
I like the camaraderie and helping. It all goes for a good cause.
David Buck served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971. He joined the American Legion after Tim O’Donnell encouraged him to become a Rider and explained that Legion membership was part of joining the Riders. David now serves as Second Vice Commander.
David started riding around the age of 23. A neighbor had a Sportster, and seeing other people ride sparked his interest. After his military service, he rode a 500cc Triumph across Canada. He later took a long break from riding and returned to it about 15 years ago after retiring.
Today David rides a 2024 Heritage. He enjoys the camaraderie of the Riders and the chance to help with work that supports good causes. He also appreciates the veteran resources available through the Legion and the way membership brings people together.
David has taken part in the national Legacy Run, which he describes as a challenging but rewarding experience. The route averages about 1,000 miles over five days, with stops that can include a space museum, General Patton’s museum, and Fort Knox. For David, the run is a chance to see different parts of the country, meet good people, and support a meaningful cause.
Away from the motorcycle, David enjoys walking, spending time outdoors, attending car shows, and visiting swap meets. He worked as a carpenter before retiring and lived in California for many years.
David encourages people who enjoy riding, gathering with others, and helping their community to consider joining the Legion and the Riders. For him, the value is in the people, the camaraderie, the service, and the good that comes from working together.
